Summer heat means sweat, and sweat around a new piercing is an open invitation for bacteria. Keep your hair up. Keep sunscreen away from the site. And if you're thinking about jumping into Barton Springs or Lake Travis with a fresh cartilage piercing, don't. Chlorine and lake water are behind more infected piercings between May and August than anything else.

Winter brings dry air, more crusting around the site. That's normal. Don't pick at it. Saline spray twice a day. That's it.
